Our Story

In 2006, after Best of Israel founder David Kramer, completed his military service in Israel, he learned the story of Ella Abekasis. Ella was an eleven-year-old girl from the city of Sderot who saved her brothers life, facing an incoming terror rocket attack from Gaza, by lying him down in the middle of the road and covering him with her body. Unfortunately, the rocket landed 10-meters away and she was fatefully hit by the shrapnel of the rocket. She passed away a week later in hospital, after massive-prayer gatherings on her behalf around the country. Her bravery and instinctive action to save her brothers life was a theme that David had witnessed countless times in the Israeli army and since.

Value Of Life

What he noticed, time and again, is that there is a unique and uncompromising desire for the protection and preservation of human life in Israel, which goes against everything that most people understand about this country. Today in Israel, there are over 32,000 charitable organizations, across every sector and in almost every field and since 1958, Israel has always been amongst the first countries to offer international assistance, following natural and unnatural disasters. This includes countries that have no diplomatic relations with Israel. It shows a country and people that care deeply about the world, despite facing unimaginable challenges and obstacles, situated in one of the toughest regions in the world.

At the same time, there is an unprecedented level of unity in Israel which unfortunately, usually shows its face in difficult times. Israeli society is knows for holding massive prayer gatherings, rallies and protests to call for the safety and sanctity of a single human life, as we recently witnessed with Gilad Shalit, a soldier held captive by Hamas for 5 years and then eventually released; the kidnapping and murder of 3 Israeli teenagers; several recent wars and conflicts, forest fires and more.

For the past 7 years David and his team of educators, marketing professionals and consultants have been working with some of the finest charities in Israel through a social-venture he founded called NU Campaign, This experience motivated David to write a book about the stories of these organizations and it was recently published titled United Nation,
